The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and in 2012–13 individual schools were allocated funding for children from low-income families who were eligible for free school meals, looked after children and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces.

The Government initially provided funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding was jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The aim of the Sports Premium was to increase participation in PE and sport, improve performance through quality teaching and coaching and to promote healthy lifestyles among children and young people through school and community involvement.
The Sports Premium funding will continue beyond the initial two year period for another academic year 2016-2017. The funding will be allocated directly to primary schools across England based on the number of primary aged children on roll.
At Frosterley Primary School, we strive to raise whole school achievement and standards in PE, promote healthy and active lifestyles and aim to provide new sporting opportunities for all our pupils.
PE funding is sustainable to ensure teachers are up skilled and can teach and assess PE in the future according to pupils and school’s needs.

Swimming analysis: In addition to the impact of our Sport Premium spending we regularly take part in weekly swimming sessions in order to ensure that as many of our children as possible reach the required expectation to be able to:
“Swim confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.”
In 2016-2017 100% of our Year 6 children left us being able to attain this competency and 90.9% of our Year 5 pupils were operating at this level.
